Jessica Buchanan

HUMANITARIAN

Jessica Buchanan is a New York Times Bestselling author of 'Impossible Odds: The Kidnapping of Jessica Buchanan and her Dramatic Rescue by SEAL Team VI' and is the co-host of "We Should Talk About That", a podcast dedicated to unpacking the uncomfortable topics that nobody is talking about, but definitely should. With a touch of humor and a healthy dose of self-deprecation, Jessica delves into issues relating to PTSD, grief, imposter syndrome, body image, middle age, the plight of the working mom and more.

Previously, Jessica was a humanitarian aid worker living and working in Somalia. In October 2011, while on a routine field mission, Jessica was abducted at gunpoint and held for ransom by a group of Somali land pirates. After being held outdoors in deplorable conditions, starved, and terrorized by more than two dozen gangsters for 93 days, Jessica was liberated by SEAL Team Six during a daring operation that required the US Navy's elite special forces unit to heroically parachute into the desert and successfully rescue her.

Jessica travels the country speaking on resilience and overcoming impossible odds through the lens of navigating change. She is a family support liaison for Hostage US, a non-profit that seeks to support former hostages and their families, as well as a dedicated Ambassador for the Navy SEAL Foundation, which works to support families of fallen SEALs.
