Announcing TEDxPearlStreet 2020 "Leading Change"



VICE Media’s Daisy Auger-Dominguez, Johns Hopkins’s Dr. Marty Makary, Celebrity Chef Kwame Onwuachi and Others Join Lineup for Inaugural TEDxPearlStreet Event


Inspirational thinkers, innovators share ideas on “Leading Change”


WASHINGTON – TEDxPearlStreet, an independently organized TED event, today announced the lineup of speakers and performers for its inaugural event in Washington, D.C., taking place virtually on July 18, 2020.


“We’ve faced challenges in bringing this new event to life in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, but thanks to the enthusiasm of our incredible speakers and the dedication of the TEDxPearlStreet team we have embraced every change and created something we’re all proud of,” said Kim Cayce, executive director of TEDxPearlStreet and CEO of Luna Startup Labs. “TEDxPearlStreet is going to be an illuminating and inspiring experience for everyone who looks out at our world with a desire to change it for the better.”


The theme of TEDxPearlStreet’s July 18 event is “Leading Change” and will feature speakers and performers from across the DC region and the country, each with diverse areas of expertise, including technology, culinary arts, psychology, criminal justice reform, art and more. Highlighted participants for TEDxPearlStreet “Leading Change” include:

  • Chef Kwame Onwuachi: executive chef at Kith/Kin, “Top Chef” contestant, and author of “Notes from a Young Black Chef”.

  • Daisy Auger-Dominguez: chief people officer at VICE Media, workplace culture shaper, and human capital strategist.

  • Dr. Marty Makary: New York Times bestselling author and Johns Hopkins surgeon and professor of public health.

  • Karen Gray Houston: Emmy award-winning Fox5 reporter, radio personality and author of “Daughter of the Boycott: Carrying On a Montgomery Family's Civil Rights Legacy”.

  • Dr. Kaveh Akbari Hamed: Director of the Hybrid Dynamic Systems and Robot Locomotion (HDSRL) Lab in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech.

  • Jessica Carson: author of “Wired This Way”, Expert in Residence at Georgetown University and director of innovation at the American Psychological Association.

  • Halim Flowers: writer, spoken-word performer and Halcyon Arts Lab fellow.

  • Jessica Hall: vice president of product strategy and design at 3Pillar Global and co-author of “The Product Mindset: Succeed in the Digital Economy by Changing the Way Your Organization Thinks”.
