TEDx is Coming to Southwest Washington DC

The inaugural TEDxPearlStreet conference will officially take place at Union Stage in the SW Waterfront neighborhood of Washington, DC.

The inaugural TEDxPearlStreet conference will be held on Thursday, June 04, 2020 in the Southwest Waterfront neighborhood of Washington DC at Union Stage. Events will span throughout the day beginning at 10 a.m.

TEDxPearlStreet is an independently organized event licensed by TED and will offer participants the opportunity to connect with innovative thinkers seeking to bring new ideas, creativity, and research to the Greater Washington D.C. area. Thought leaders from across the region will provide presentations that focus on the theme “Leading Change.”

TEDxPearlStreet “Leading Change” aims to highlight ideas associated with the challenges and opportunities that exist as we enter a new decade, imagine a world of new possibilities, and identify new ways to overcome challenges and propose solutions that inspire action.

This will be the first TEDx event to be held in The Wharf, a remarkable, mile-long stretch along the Potomac River that is recognized as a model for public-private partnership. The revitalization of DC’s historic Southwest & The Wharf neighborhood has transformed underdeveloped land into a vibrant community full of housing, jobs, and opportunity.

“Leading change is about awakening others to a world of new possibilities,” said the event’s head organizer, Kim Cayce. “TEDxPearlStreet is an opportunity for us to explore new ideas that can help us uplift our communities, build bridges across sectors, and energize us to welcome new technologies and social norms with open minds as we begin our journey into the future.”

The executive team for TEDsPearlStreet includes Kim Cayce, Jennifer Wappaus, Judy Wiza and Paul Boudrye. TEDxPearlStreet speakers will be announced in April 2020 and there are opportunities to be engaged from attending the event, volunteering, sponsoring and more.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

About TED

TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, often in the form of short talks delivered by leading thinkers and doers. Many of these talks are given at TED conferences, including our annual gathering in Vancouver, as well as TEDWomen, intimate TED Salons and thousands of independently organized TEDx events around the world. Videos of these talks are made available, free, on TED.com and other platforms. Audio versions of the talks from TED2019 are published to TED's podcast TED Talks Daily, available on all podcast platforms.

TED's open and free initiatives for spreading ideas include TED.com, where new TED Talk videos are posted daily; TEDx, which licenses thousands of individuals and groups to host local, self-organized TED-style events around the world; the TED Fellows program, which selects innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities; the Audacious Project, which surfaces and funds critical ideas that have the potential to impact millions of lives; TEDSummit, which gathers the most engaged members of the global TED community for brainstorms, discussions, performances, workshops and an eclectic program of mainstage talks; and the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED also has a growing library of original podcasts, including The TED Interview with Chris Anderson, WorkLife with Adam Grant, TED en Español and Sincerely, X.
